Editorial Policy
How we pick, review, and score AI tools. Our promise to readers.
Editorial independence
toolsta.com is editorially independent. Our reviews, rankings, and recommendations are not paid placements. No tool can buy a top spot. No advertiser can pay to bury a competitor.
We do earn affiliate commissions on some outbound links. When a link is affiliate, we mark it as such (e.g., rel="sponsored noopener"). Affiliate revenue never affects our editorial judgment.
Our review process
- Discovery: We find tools via user submissions, our own research, and industry monitoring.
- Hands-on testing: We sign up, pay if needed, and use the tool for real tasks. Minimum 2 hours of hands-on time before any review.
- Scoring: We rate tools on five dimensions: quality, ease of use, value, support, and innovation.
- Writing: The review is written by a human (not AI) based on our notes. AI helps with grammar only.
- Fact-check: Pricing, features, and links are verified the day before publication.
How we score tools
Every tool in the directory gets a score from 0 to 5 stars based on five dimensions:
- Quality (30%): How good is the actual output or functionality?
- Ease of use (25%): Can a non-technical user get value in under 15 minutes?
- Value (20%): Is the pricing fair for what you get?
- Support (15%): Is help available, responsive, and useful?
- Innovation (10%): Does it push the field forward, or is it a copycat?
The aggregate score is shown on every tool page. Sub-scores are available on detail pages.
Conflicts of interest
We sometimes review tools made by companies we have other relationships with (advertising, partnerships, investments). When that happens, we disclose it at the top of the relevant review.
Team members are not allowed to own stock in any tool we cover. If a team member has a personal relationship with a founder, they recuse themselves from that review.
Corrections policy
We make mistakes. When we do, we fix them transparently:
- Minor corrections (typos, broken links) are fixed silently.
- Substantive corrections (wrong pricing, misattributed features) are fixed with a dated correction note at the top of the review.
- Score changes after publication are noted in the review with the reason and date.

Tool submissions
We accept free submissions via our submit a tool form. Submissions are reviewed within 5 business days. Approved tools are added to the directory with a basic listing; we may add a full review later.
Submitting a tool does not guarantee a review or a specific score. We treat all tools the same regardless of whether they were submitted, found by us, or referred by a partner.
